The 4th Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting on Phase 2 (II) Project 5: The Project for the Capacity Development of Business Professionals and Networking through LJI
The Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) at the National University of Laos (NOUL), drives the sustainable growth through human resource development and stronger networking in business and academia between the two nations in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Foundation (JF).
On 28 July 2026, Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) with support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held the 4th Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting with presence of officials from National University of Laos (NOUL) and Ministry of Education and Sport, Ministry of finance, DOSMEP and LNNCCI.
The JCC meeting aims to review achievements, address challenges, and share the future direction of the Project for the Capacity Development of Business Professionals and Networking through LJI (JICA Project at LJI) among all stakeholders and partners.
The meeting was opened with welcoming remarks by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinthavone DARAVONG, President, NUOL and concluded with closing remarks by Ms. KOBAYASHI Miyako, Chief Representative, JICA Laos Office.
An overview of the project’s objectives and achievements of the LJI was presented by Dr. Phonekeo Chanthamaly, Director of LJI. Mr. Yoshiharu YONEYAMA, Chief Advisor, JICA Project to LJI presented the performance over the past 4 year (September 2022 to August 2025) .Finally, the plan and JICA support framework for the new project (Project V phase 3) was shared by Dr. Phonekeo Chanthamaly Director of LJI.
It was confirmed that all targets of JICA Project V Phase 2 were successfully achieved, despite challenges, through the dedicated efforts of LJI and its supporting organizations.
During the reporting period, various business training and networking events academic and culture exchange have been activity implemented in response to demands of society. Business networks among Lao companies, as well as between Lao and foreign companies including Japan, have expanded. LJI has also worked to broaden partnerships essential for delivering business training, while strengthening initiatives to promote Japanese language education and cultural exchange.
LJI was established with a grant from the Japanese government through JICA in 2001. Since then, JICA has been supporting LJI to enhance platform function and strengthen training capacity of human resource development in order to accelerate economic growth in Laos.
Additionally, the plan and JICA support framework of the new project (Project V phase 3: September 2026 – December 2029) was present in the meeting.
Plan for new Project (September 2026 – August 2027)
LJI continues to foster human resource development within the business community and its supporting organizations. Furthermore, it is expanding networks both domestically and internationally to strengthen its role as a platform for inclusive socio-economic development in Laos.
With support from JICA, LJI provides opportunities for management staff of Lao companies through the Keiei-juku Program (Japanese-style management training), startup-focused LJI SUSU Program, various seminars, and networking events among Lao companies as well as with foreign companies, including those from Japan and ASEAN countries. In addition, with support from the Japan Foundation (JF), LJI is enhancing cultural exchange initiatives and Japanese language education.
