First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all visitors of LJI website for paying attentions to LJI activities. By going through this website, I hope you can understand LJI programs and activities, and I hope to welcome you at LJI. With this greeting message, I would like to briefly introduce our organization, Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) to you as follows.
LJI was established as Lao-Japan Human Resource Cooperation Center (LJC) in May 2001 as a cooperation project between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the National University of Laos (NUOL) and has been upgraded to Laos-Japan Institute in May 2010. Since 2012, Japan Foundation has come to work with us establishing Japan Foundation Language Center under LJI. Therefore, LJI is now a house of two important projects. The first project is the JICA Project for capacity development towards improving the private sector and promoting Japanese investment in Lao PDR, the second project is Japan Foundation Language Center for promoting Japanese education in Lao PDR.
Through these two projects, we carry out various programs and activities such as master degree program in business administration program, business management training program plus on-site consultation, action research and case study development, business seminars and forums, Japanese language training program, cultural and academic exchange programs, study-in-Japan promotion program, job placement in Japanese companies in Lao PDR promotion activities as well as various  Japanese cultural activities such as Japanese New Year festival. LJI receives various study tour missions from Japan every year. LJI has also played an important supporting function for Honda Foundation in administering Honda Young Engineer and Scientist Award program in Lao PDR. Recently, LJI has initiated a management training program for company executives known in the Japanese language as “keiei-juku”. LJI coordinates and hosts Japanese Language Proficiency Test every year.
Our activities are mainly conducted in Vientiane Capital, particularly within the building of LJI located at the main campus of the National University of Laos. In addition, we also conduct seminars and training programs in other provinces such as Savannakhet province and Champasak province. Our programs emphasize practical learning; thus, we organize study tours in Japan for excellent participants and study tour in neighboring countries under JICA supports. We emphasize information exchange and networking among our participants and we have built good networks with Japan centers and various organizations in neighboring countries as well as in Japan.
By carrying out the above mentioned programs and activities, we hope that LJI will become a center of excellence in building friendly relationships and cooperation between Lao PDR and Japan in developing human resources in business management area and Japanese language for use in socio-economic development in Lao PDR in the age of ASEAN economic integration, and LJI will become a platform for cultural exchange activities between Lao and Japanese people. I really hope that more and more people will visit and participate in LJI programs and activities so that LJI will achieve the vision of center of excellence and remain a simple of friendships and cooperation between Lao and Japanese people.

Greetings to all LJI website visitors
For the past several years, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Laos has been drastically increasing and since the creation of the ASEAN economic community (AEC) in December 2015, there has been a further inflow of FDI. It is thus anticipated that the Lao market will become more and more competitive between the Lao companies and companies of neighboring countries.
Therefore, it is an important political challenge for the Lao Government to develop human resources in the business sector. In a more definitive sense, it is essential and urgent for the Lao Government to educate and nurture business people that can deal with FDI whilst simultaneously having the capacity to fully compete in the AEC.
In connection to this matter, the Japanese Government has been continuously contributing to increase the number of trained human resources in the business sector with more than 40,000 persons within 3 years under Japan’s Human Resource Development Initiative in Asia.  In Laos, the Laos-Japan Institute has acted as a center for this initiative and has trained more than 5,000 business people since its establishment as LJC (now LJI) in 2001.
In addition to the training of middle management people by implementing MBA and regular training programs, LJI aims to further strengthen the training of chief executive officer’s (CEO) and top management of small and medium enterprises (SME) by starting the‘Keiei-juku’ program through which the training of ‘Japanese style management’ will be provided more systematically to the people.
Furthermore, it is necessary for LJI to promote training of human resources in the business sector comprehensively together with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and many financial organizations such as the Lao Development Bank. It is especially important for LJI to provide young entrepreneurs with appropriate training by collaborating with relevant organizations when starting their own businesses.
In the future, we hope that LJI will become a ‘hub’ for the business community of Laos and with the continued support of JICA, we hope to materialize such expectation for LJI together.
