LJI and JETRO Vientiane Office Signed MOC to promote business collaboration between Laos and Japan.
On 25 May 2022, Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Vientiane Office signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for the purpose of promoting business between Lao and Japanese companies. Under this MOC, LJI and JETRO Vientiane Office have agreed to strengthen Lao companies including start-ups, and promote business relations with Japanese companies, which are expected to foster sustainable economic growth stimulated by the Lao government.
LJI and JETRO Vientiane Office plan to share information on Lao companies including start-ups with Japanese companies, inform JETRO-related events to Lao companies, and assist each other in organizing seminars and events that are held by either party, including the implementation of the LJI SUSU (start-up and scale-up) program for young people and entrepreneurs, which LJI launched in 2021.
Japanese companies will be able to strengthen their ties with high-quality Lao companies and start-ups through interaction with the member companies of Keiei-Juku Laos (KJL), which consists of Lao business leaders who have learned and adopted Japanese-style management, along with MBA program alumni and LJI SUSU participants. Business opportunities are expected to expand for the companies from both countries.
LJI will continue to work with the organizations and groups which share the same vision of "promoting sustainable economic growth in Laos" in order to enhance and enrich its services to Lao businesses and society in general.
LJI: Established in 2001 with Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA), LJI is an institution of the National University of Laos (NUOL) to promote sustainable growth of society through the development of highly competent human resources. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and The Japan Foundation (JF) support its operation. Following three fundamental pillars of (1) business human resource development, (2) Japanese language education, and (3) mutual understanding activities between Japan and Laos, LJI aims to function as a platform to create and nurture new values and activities such as business linkage and university exchange between the two countries, by utilizing know-how and expertise from its two decades of operation.

ກິດຈະກຳ Special Innovation Lab x Beyond MTG ໄດ້ຈັດຂຶ້ນພາຍໃຕ້ການຮ່ວມມືກັບບໍລິສັດໃຫ້ຄຳປຶກສາ ABeam Consulting Ltd. Special Innovation Lab x Beyond MTG was organized in collaboration with ABeam Consulting Ltd.
On 24 February 2022,「Innovation Lab × Beyond MTG」(※1) was organized by the Sustainability Unit of ABeam Consulting Ltd. in collaboration with LJI for its internal human resource development and for LJI SUSU participating companies’ growth.
At the beginning of the event, Mr. Jon Zhang, a representative from ABeam Consulting Ltd., gave a presentation on the Innovation Lab, and the JICA expert in charge of business networking gave a presentation on LJI SUSU.
The three LJI SUSU participating companies then pitched their business models and their challenges in business implementation, followed by brainstorming and discussion with the event participants to come up with ideas to solve the problems.
Participants from ABeam Consulting, LJI staff and LJI SUSU participating companies formed teams by converging diverse backgrounds, and engaged in discussions to solve issues faced by each company, resulting in a variety of ideas.
The companies that gave pitches were thrilled to comment that they gained ideas for future business, and that such an opportunity for people with different backgrounds to gather and discuss was very valuable.
LJI welcomes such "win-win" partnerships with unique, competent organizations/institutions and hopes to continue to increase the number of partners.
(*1: ABeam Consulting Ltd. aims to discover/train human resources who will voluntarily work on solving social issues through the SDGs and expand the realization of new SDGs-related service development, and the "Innovation Lab x Beyond MTG" was conducted as part of this effort).
(*2: LJI SUSU is an abbreviation for LJI Start-Up & Scale-Up, and "SUSU" is the Lao word for "Fight" (do your best!) (Go for it!)"
LJI SUSU was born out of a desire to support Lao companies overcoming difficult times such as COVID-19 and so on. The "LJI SUSU" is a symbol of the LJI’s commitment to society.
